Do you have a young storyteller in your life who lacks the confidence to capture their stories in writing?
Are you looking to help them to release his or her creativity?
If so, a ‘Write, Not Wrong’ kid’s writing workshop – where they may or may not write a single word (and that’s just fine!) could be just for them!
The ‘Write, Not Wrong’ Toolkit encourages storytellers to value their stories. We invite storytellers to slow down, observe the sensory world to develop the world-building and character-building skills that might help their creativity flourish.
This is not tutoring. This is not about dotting Is and crossing Ts. This is about finding voice, a sprinkling of whimsy, having fun and the courage to create.
As a writer and the mother of a child with learning challenges, I know the despair that comes from seeing a child’s sparkle diminished by a focus on literacy at the cost of creativity. Stifled by the need to tell the story in the ‘right’ way, they can inadvertently become blocked - often losing their stories altogether.
‘Write, Not Wrong’ workshops offer a space that encourages participants to recover their voice, acknowledge their stories and practice collecting them in a way that they can share (if they want to, they may just want to write for themselves!).
